Can an AI summary be misleading even when its individual facts are true?

In brief

Yes. An AI answer can assemble true statements into a misleading account by omitting dates, grouping unrelated events, or implying a causal relationship that the sources do not establish. Accuracy therefore includes the meaning of the whole answer, not only whether each sentence contains a checkable fact.

A summary becomes misleading when it presents a concluded dispute as unresolved or combines incidents from different subsidiaries or periods into one ongoing practice. Older sources document the history; current evidence establishes its status and relevance. Correct the chronology and attribution while preserving relevant facts.

Identify the inference the audience draws and the missing context that changes it. Explain the documented resolution, corporate relationship, chronology, or denominator relevant to that inference. Give the fuller factual account when a true-or-false label leaves the consequential implication unresolved. Later checks assess whether that implication recurs. Preserve legitimate criticism while correcting a distorted account of present identity, responsibility, or performance.
