Does an executive need a personal website to have a credible digital presence?
In brief
No. A separate personal website is useful only if it answers a professional need that existing sources do not serve. A maintained corporate biography can be more credible and useful than an additional site that becomes obsolete.
Assess whether current roles, a substantial publication archive, or independent speaking work give a distinct site a useful purpose. Explain those activities and their relationship to the corporate role. Publish material that adds context and assign responsibility for keeping it current.
The practical assessment includes ownership, domain renewal, update responsibility, privacy, and the site's purpose after a job change. A personal site does not become independent evidence merely because it uses a different domain. Its value lies in clear attribution, useful professional material, and dependable maintenance rather than an assumption that another website will control search results.
