How should Google News, Top stories and web results be handled separately?
In brief
Record which news surface actually exposes the story. Google News, the News tab, Top stories and ordinary web listings are different encounters. A news carousel can change quickly while the same article remains prominent in a brand-name web search.
Preserve the query, surface, headline, publisher, timestamp and source URL. Assess the accuracy of the article separately from selection and preview. A factual publisher correction can improve the account across several surfaces; qualifying search-policy or legal requests need their own scope. An ordinary unfavorable article does not become removable simply because it appears under a news label.
For owned news content, fix crawl access and publish genuine, well-supported developments that answer the current issue. Google documents automatic selection for Top stories and the News tab. Its Googlebot-News control can exclude owned content from Google News without the same exclusion from web Search; this is a site-owner tool, not authority over an independent publisher. Follow each affected surface after intervention and retain whether the story, its preview or merely its placement changed.
